How to Translate Chat Messages in Telegram
Translating chat messages in Telegram is pretty straightforward. Here are the steps for different devices.
Summary
With a few simple settings, you can easily translate chat messages in Telegram, which really boosts your communication efficiency. Telegram Premium users, in particular, get access to more advanced automatic translation features.
iOS Devices
- Open Settings: Head to Settings → Language, and enable the Show Translate Button.
- Translate a Message: Long-press the message you want to translate, then select Translate.
- Heads-up: There's currently a bug in the iOS app where tapping Translate might just show a loading state. The workaround is to change your app's language to Chinese, and it should then translate successfully into Chinese.
Android Devices
- Open Settings: Go to Settings → Language, and enable the Show Translate Button.
- Translate a Message: Tap the message you want to translate, then select Translate.
macOS Devices
- Open Settings: Go to Settings → Language, and enable the Show Translate Button.
- Translate a Message: Right-click the message you want to translate, then select Translate.
Windows Devices
- Open Settings: Head to Settings → Language, and enable the Show Translate Button.
- Translate a Message: Right-click the message you want to translate, then select Translate.
New Premium Features
Telegram Premium users can automatically translate messages across entire channels or groups. On top of that, some third-party clients also offer automatic translation. For example, Intent provides AI translation for whole groups and channels, with 3000 free translations available each month. Turrit, on the other hand, supports Google Translate for entire channels, and includes 30 AI correction credits.
